A Truly Inspirational Woman!!

This post I am dedicating to a truly inspirational woman! I was introduced to this amazing, caring and loving woman in October of 2012 and her story at that time helped me make the decision to JOIN The Challenge. Kim Stueber is the absolute epitome of The Challenge, a lot like me her first 90 Day Challenge was to really test the system and "see" by following the system and changing nothing else (i.e. no exercise and still just hanging out on the couch channel surfing in her spare time) and see if she could lose 20 pounds.

Since the 5th grade Kim has struggled with her weight, she says "I remember my elementary school PE teacher creating a club called 'The Jolly Joggers'." Throughout her life she has been on a roller coaster ride loosing a few pounds here and gaining them plus some back and literally tried everything under the sun to help her lose and keep off the weight. After trying Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Phen Phen diet pills, Jazzercise, dozens of infomercial exercise equipments and programs and even going as far as attending a seminar about gastric bypass surgery (which she didn't do) she pretty much gave up and accepted the fact that she would remain fat the rest of her life.

In October of 2011 exactly a year before I met Kim she was first introduced to The Challenge by seeing some friends of her's Tim & Julie Baca (some more amazing people by the way) losing weight with some "Challenge thing". This was a pivotal time for Kim because her daughter was pregnant with her first grandchild and helped to spark the fire inside her to want to get healthier. She jokes and says her first 90 Day Challenge was "Stalking the Baca's" and watching their transformations.

A few months later in January of 2012 Kim was blessed with her first granddaughter and this point was when some fuel got added to that fire to change her health. Kim and her daughter Chelsea decided to take the baby for a walk down the street that was about a 1/2 mile round trip. She says "My legs burned, my lungs burned and I thought I was literally going to DIE!" This is when she knew she had to so something so she could be a part of her grandchild's life and so she could have time with her future grand babies.

She was still on her first Challenge of "Stalking the Baca's" and was watching all the stories of people transformations but was fearful of joining The Challenge because she was afraid of letting herself and her family down with another failed attempt. At this point she started watching a specific transformation of a gentleman named Adam. In her words "Adam had started his first 90 Day Challenge and was going full force, full speed! He was posting videos on Facebook, totally transparent, totally motivating and totally inspiring."

On April 11, 2012 Kim finally mustered up the courage to go to Tim's Challenge Party and find out more about this "Challenge thing". She describes this as "The best decision I have made for ME!" After seeing what The Challenge was about she knew immediately that this was going to work for her, she didn't know what it was about it only that deep down she knew without a shadow of a doubt that it would. At this Challenge Party she was introduced to Adam who had been the big inspiration for her to attempt to lose weight one more time. Kim's first 90 Day Challenge was to lose 20 pounds while channel surfing on the couch, her results....... she lost 22 pounds with absolutely no exercise and proved to herself that the product worked!

On her second 90 Day Challenge Kim decided that she would start exercising. On the first day of her Challenge she walked out her front door and walked around her neighborhood which is located in the foothills near the base of the mountains. She says "I could have walked longer, but needed to get home to prepare for our first Challenge Party!" Kim decided after seeing and feeling the results of The Challenge to start promoting it and sharing it with everyone, "It didn't seem fair to not share this with everyone we knew!", says Kim. Her entire family has also joined her on their own Challenges and have had their share of success as well!

It is now one year since she originally JOINED The Challenge and she continues her journey. She has successfully lost 15 inches around her chest, 13 inches around her waistline and 13 inches from her hips. She now works out at 6 am every weekday morning and has lost (with no intention of finding it again) 72 pounds. Her husband Jeff, Daughter Chelsea, Sons Kyle and Connor and Mother Joyce and her have shed away 217 pounds total!!

In no way was Kim expecting a miracle but one found her in the form of The Challenge! She realizes that it took her decades to get to the point that she was at and that it will take time to reach her total weight loss goal (she has 50 more pounds to go, you'll get there in no time Kim!!!). She is dedicated to reaching her goal and has been a complete inspiration in my life and has helped transform many others by sharing her story.

One thing that is constantly on her mind is the phrase "A year from now you will wish you had started today." She is extremely happy to see what this next year of her and her families journey with The Challenge will look like. In her words "For the first time, EVER, I know that I can and will do this! I will get healthy and remain healthy. My Family will get healthy and remain healthy. We Will Share our story and this great product to help others get healthy and remain healthy! All the glory goes to God!"

Since meeting Kim and her family they have all become life long friends and I look forward to seeing their continued transformation and sharing mine with them. I am also proud to be part of their mission to transform as many lives as possible and work to get our friends and family healthy! Thank You Kim Stueber for being a constant inspiration and Thank You to her son Kyle Stueber for constantly bugging me to find out about The Challenge!

Fast Food and Your Growing Waist

Most Americans are short on time as well as money and in turn rely “heavily” on fast food. Fast food companies make it extremely easy and cheap to pull up yell a number out to a speaker drive up and grab a bag and proceed to shove a 1500+ calorie meal into your body.

Fast food restaurants are ever-present in the United States. On every corner there is a new one popping up each week it seems like. This is a good reason why so many people turn to them so willingly. But studies have shown that “fast food” can easily put you on the “fast track” to fat.

With the fast paced American way of life it is very easy to fall into the evil traps of fast food. But have you given much consideration to what exactly that fast food is doing to your health and figure?

The stats show that Fast Food sales have seen a ridiculous increase of almost 1000% over the past 35 years. They have gone from $16.1 billion in 1975 to a “whopping” $160 billion in 2009. Their growth in profits is very easily seen just by simply going to the mall and looking at the many overgrown waist lines and every year Americans keep growing.

Increasing Sickness

Reports from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that the obesity epidemic in the United States is growing at a frightening rate. In 2010 not a single state had an occurrence of obesity less than 20% and 12 states had an occurrence greater than 30%. The CDC also reports that 2/3rds of the American population is overweight or obese and an alarming 1/3 of our youth are overweight or obese.

My Personal Testimonial

I have posted many testimonials from tons of other people about how The Challenge has helped them and changed their lives. Well today I am posting my personal experience to give everyone an understanding about why I am so happy to have been introduced to The Challenge.

November 10 2007 is a day that completely changed my life. I was involved in a car wreck that nearly took my life. I was heading home late one night around 3 or 4 am when I fell asleep on the highway with my cruise control set and ran off the road at 70 mph and hit a tree head on.... Thankfully the lady that was out delivering newspapers that morning heard the commotion and didn’t hesitate to call the police. The second thing that saved me that morning was the fact that there was an officer just less than 1 mile away that quickly responded. When he arrived at the scene in his report he wrote “Upon arrival the individual was hanging upside down in the automobile strapped in with his seat belt, I approached the vehicle trying to elicit a response without a reaction. I smelled gasoline from the vehicle and there were open flames present so I immediately cut the seat belt from the individual and pulled him away from the vehicle after which immediately combusted into flames. Shortly after checking the individuals breathing and heart rate the paramedics arrived and transported him to the Roosevelt County Hospital.”  This gentleman is someone that I will never forget and owe literally everything to. He did end up winning a metal for outstanding service and bravery because of his quick response and pulling me from the car before I burned alive.

After being transported to the Roosevelt County Hospital it was concluded that my injuries were beyond the level of care that they could provide so I was immediately transported via helicopter to the Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, TX and immediately received treatment for my injuries that included; bruised skull, bruised and partially collapsed lungs, cut above my right eye, dislocated right elbow, broken right radius, ulna and wrist, broken right tibia and fibula and shattered the ankle joints causing my foot to be in a position 180 degrees from where it normally should be (put you foot up and picture your ankle facing the sky and toe facing the ground and that was my foot).

This obviously resulted in numerous surgeries to and after the 3rd surgery on my leg the Dr. walked in the ICU and said “I believe we may have saved the leg”. Even with me doped up on all the Morphine and pain killers they had me on, that one sentence hit me pretty hard and I can remember being scared for the first time during all of this because just like every other young guy on the planet I believed I was untouchable (yes even though I was sitting in ICU with multiple injuries). Well needless to say that thought quickly left me after hearing that sentence and knowing that I almost lost my leg and I was actually thinking that it may still happen because all I actually heard from the Dr. was “May have saved”.

The total number of surgeries for all of my injuries was 5 on my leg and 2 on my arm. To this day my fibula on my right leg is still in 4 pieces because they just sort of put it all there hoping it would grow back together (it didn’t), I have a metal plate and 13 screws  that were put in place to fix my tibia and my ankle has more metal in it then it does bone. My right arm has a metal plate and 11 screws in the radius,  and my ulna was damaged enough when my elbow was dislocated that it wouldn’t fully relocate into my elbow which doesn’t allow my arm to fully extend. My ulna at my wrist had to be cut and fused to my wrist and a metal screw placed trough the wrist because the damage was to extreme and my wrist carpals wouldn’t set correctly.
The next 6 months of my life were spent in a wheel chair and going to the Dr. so he could keep an eye on everything and make sure everything was setting correctly. After about 4 months I started going to Physical Therapy in order to learn to use my arm and hand again and after a month I was able to barely brush my teeth using my right arm again. I then started in on Physical Therapy for my leg and was working on rehabilitating the muscles in my leg foot and the entire body because of the time spent in the wheel chair, this was the time that I actually was able to get rid of the wheel chair and began using a platform walker to get around. The next 3 months were spent in some extremely frustrating therapy trying to stand without assistance, walk and building strength back in my leg. These 3 months were absolutely the longest and hardest months of my entire life! The amount of pain that I went through during this time was unbelievable and the frustrations that went with it were insurmountable. I was able to push myself to get to the point to get discharged from Physical Therapy and continue with life as I like to say. It took me 10 months from the time I was flown to the hospital until I was back working for a living again.

I look back on that time and think to myself “Great job! Back on your feet working in less than a year!” and even though I am extremely proud of that fact the following years were not kind on me. The level of pain that I experienced daily due to the injuries was indescribable. I can remember to many nights lying in bed crying myself to sleep because the pain pills I was taking were not helping and I knew I couldn’t and shouldn’t take more for fear of damage to my liver. This was a constant issue for 5 years and was at the point that I was using 2-3 bottles of pain killers (always the arthritis ones because they are stronger) a month just to take the edge off of the pain. Just in case you’re wondering that is over twice the recommended daily intake for pain killers. I would switch up the brands every few weeks so my body wasn’t getting use to the specific brand in hopes that I would get more of the effects from them.

Me at my heaviest...255 pounds!!
Dealing with the constant pain and the frustration that it just won’t go away caused me to have a very grim outlook not just towards life but in general and it put me in an extremely dark place. I became very destructive towards myself in the fact that I began to binge drink pretty much regularly with the intention of getting rid of the pain. There were not many nights that went by throughout the past 4 years that I did not binge drink with the sole purpose of getting hammered so I no longer hurt. There were actually many days that I would look forward to getting off of work so I could slam a bottle of whiskey and some pain pills so I couldn’t feel my leg. This behavior caused me some issues the past few years and has also put some of my
friendships in jeopardy and caused some issues one night while out with friends that could have cost me a friendship that I care about greatly. I am extremely happy that those friends were able to forgive me and that we remain close friends even though they are across the country now. Not only was I drinking uncontrollably but I was also binge eating and the excessive alcohol and food caused me to gain some serious weight. At my peak I weighed in at 255 pounds and was wearing a size 40 pants. The added weight did not help my mindset and caused me to be pushed even further into the dark place I was in. I started to feel that life was useless and so was I. Then my buddy introduced me to something that absolutely changed my life.

Now, here we are 5 years and 4 months after that fateful night that I tried uprooting that tree with my car (I did uproot it by the way) and I am now 4 months into The Challenge and I am extremely happy to say that I do not use pain killers except for the occasional headache. I now weigh in at 191 pounds and am actually still dropping some weight! I feel 1000 times better than I have in the recent years and have a completely positive outlook on life and know that great things are in my future. I have quit drinking and eat clean foods on top of
Down to 191 pounds and in the best shape of my life!!
my daily Vi-Shape protein shakes that I have twice a day. Instead of dreading waking up in the morning and having to go all day on my feet I look forward to the mornings (after spending 2 or so hours a day at the gym to improve my physical health even more) and go none-stop all day long with a smile and positive attitude. I cannot express how happy I am that I was introduced to The Challenge and what it has done for me.
If you or anybody you knows suffers from chronic pain please share this post with them and maybe they will be thanking you for changing their lives in the near future!
