Weight Matters

Many people focus on weight loss goals for appearance or just to shed a few pounds, however it is extremely important to note other factors that should be on the mind of weight loss seekers.

Obesity not only increases the risk of heart disease, but also hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, liver disease and plenty of other unpleasant health issues. Add on increased likelihood of depression, low self-esteem and an impaired social existence and you start to really see how negative it can be.

Economic Impact
The CDC has estimated that medical costs related to obesity totaled about $147 billion in 2008 alone. This includes both direct and indirect costs.

Putting the Youth at Risk
The CDC also claims that 30% of children ages 2 to 19 are considered overweight or obese. Over the past three decades the rate has more than tripled for children between the ages of 6 and 11. We need to teach our children the importance of proper nutrition because at this rate, who knows how many children will be negatively affected by a weight issue in the next three decades.
