Physical and Psychological Factors
Obesity
not only increases the risk of heart disease, but also hypertension,
type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, liver disease
and plenty of other unpleasant health issues. Add on increased
likelihood of depression, low self-esteem and an impaired social
existence and you start to really see how negative it can be.Economic Impact
The CDC has estimated that medical costs related to obesity totaled about $147 billion in 2008 alone. This includes both direct and indirect costs.
Putting the Youth at Risk
The CDC also claims that 30% of children ages 2 to 19 are considered overweight or obese. Over the past three decades the rate has more than tripled for children between the ages of 6 and 11. We need to teach our children the importance of proper nutrition because at this rate, who knows how many children will be negatively affected by a weight issue in the next three decades.
We need to STEP UP to the plate and tackle this battle with obesity head on- because if we don’t, who will?
Join THE CHALLENGE today and help us decrease these horrifying numbers!!!
